If you are among the ones who have been following Google Caffeine, the new search architecture, then you must know what to expect when it is eventually rolled into the main search. Some of us have not seen anything new, while others have witnessed big changes. According to the reports, the folks at 360i have done a bunch of heavy lifting and have released a report comparing Caffeine to the old Google ,that has been nicknamed as Decaf. 360i analyzed 40 retail keywords are as under:

  • 10 retail long-tail phrases (four-word phrases)
  • 10 major retail brand names (keywords)
  • 10 retail head terms (single keywords)
  • 10 retail torso terms (two-word phrases)

The above keywords come with these conclusions:

  • Domains and rankings will fluctuate.
  • The index size of single keyword search relevance will increase.
  • Long-tail becomes more relevant.
  • Caffeine is faster to get results (SERPs) in half the time, on average.
  • Increase in Universal (aka Blended) results
  • There will be an increase in social media listings, primarily due to a lift in YouTube listings.

With just 40 keywords, this report is not at all comprehensive, but it is really an interesting story about the profile of Google Caffeine. For some people the experience has been almost exact opposite from Google Caffeine. Their experience has been less universal, not much fluctuation on rankings and smaller index. However, people are suggested to do their homework, study their keywords and get ready for the implementation of Google Caffeine.

After a July update less than two weeks ago, Bing seems to be updating again. Many webmasters are noticing a search results update on Microsoft'search engine. Some webmasters are reporting their experiences in a WebmasterWorld thread as follows:

“Definitely seeing a shift across the board. Biggest change I can pinpoint is a continued decrease in relevancy of KIDs (keywords in domain). More than 80% of the top 500 KWs I track showed movement (mostly positive for me and mostly displacing a lot of KIDs results).”

“Yes, looks like an update – and Bing traffic converts well with certain demographics. Now I've gotta scramble to do some long over-due site updates because some pages popped up out of nowhere.”

Now, you know why it's happening if you are seeing an increase or decline in your referrers from Bing recently!

After releasing Search Options panel a few months back, recently the Official Google Blog announced the release of Search Options for Google Images.

The new feature is designed to offer users with quick access to existing tools, such as search by color and image type . Color search finds images that are in color or in black and white, or images that contain a specific color, such as red, pink, or green. And image type search helps users narrow down their results while looking for a specific kind of image, such as a photo, clip art, line drawing or face.

Besides, Google has also revamped size search. Now, users are offered with a wide range of options. Apart from commonly searched-for sizes, they can search for an exact image size or any image larger than a certain size. Even, now users can find images of any size, including 70 megapixels or more.

It was recently noticed that Google had used breadcrumb data in its search result’s URL area. This means that Google is trying to read and understand breadcrumb data.

Here’s the screenshot:

Google Breadcrumbs

Interestingly, in the above example, the structure of the page title is quite similar to the breadcrumb structure. Therefore, if you’re not using breadcrumbs in the architecture of your website then it is time that you start using them.

However, Rob Hannond who noticed this first disclaims that if this is because he has CustomizeGoogle Firefox extension turned on instead of this being Google’s output?
